SOPHIA PEACH IS CAPE BRETON'S COMMUNITY PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Dec. 02, 2023

FOR Sophia Peach it is hard to see 2023 as anything less than a superb breakout season.

The pacy and determined centre-back had a terrific campaign at the heart of the defence for Cape Breton FC's U15AAA Girls.

She won Defensive MVP and was voted onto the Team of the Year at the club's annual awards night.

This weekend the 2009 born defender was invited to Halifax to be part of the Final 45 as Team Nova Scotia seek to put together their Canada Games squad for 2025.

Then to cap it all it was announced that Sophia has been voted Cape Breton's Community Player of the Year and will receive her award at the SNS Night of Excellence tonight (Saturday December 2).

Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain King stressed: "Sophia richly deserves this award because of her overall contribution to the soccer community on the island.

"When she is not improving herself in training and chasing her goals with CBFC she is one of our up and coming match officials.

"Watching her ref a match when I was on a scouting mission for our Regional Training Centre this summer I was struck by her calm maturity and how much she shows a true love of the game.

"She is a fierce competitor on the field but has a great sense of humour off it and truly cares about all aspects of soccer on the island. We are all very proud of her achievements. She has had a year to remember."
