CAPE BRETON FC Academy prospect Iven Gouthro is in Toronto as part of the 20-player Halifax Wanderers development squad taking part in the prestigious Sigma FC University Showcase.
Starting tomorrow (Thursday December 19) 16-year-old striker Iven will be involved in four games against top Ontario opposition in the shape of Sigma, Aurora, Woodbridge and North Toronto Nitros.
The Glace Bay High student has travelled as part of the Team Nova Scotia Canada Games project as he aims to make the final 18-man squad to complete in that event in St John's, Newfoundland, in August 2025.
Iven is one of 22 CAPERS Academy Provincial selections for the Team NS programs in 2025 ranging from the U13 Girls and Boys groups right up to his level at Canada Games.
Soccer Cape Breton's Regional Director of Development Iain King said: "We are very proud of Iven's development and the selection for the Sigma Showcase is another step in the journey.
"Our challenge here is to support him and keep putting him in training environments that challenge him and help his growth as a player - and a person.
"In that regard it has been excellent to see him mature and help younger club mates in our special Provincial Players Sessions, taking them under his wing and giving them advice on the field.
"That is how an Academy should work, we look forward to seeing him shine in what will be a big challenge for the Wanderers squad against excellent opposition."
