S AND C EXPERT AUBREY GIVES CAPERS A BIG LIFT

Jan. 11, 2025

CAPE BRETON UNIVERSITY Head of Strength and Conditioning Aubrey Landry is giving back to his sporting community in 2025 at the helm of the project to improve the athleticism of the CAPERS Academy soccer players.

S&C expert Aubrey is already deep into his key work with the Cape Breton FC boys and girls who now attend the High Performance Centre on the CBU Campus as part of their weekly practice program.

The sessions are a critical element of the newly designed and professionalised Tier One program provision within the Academy.

Aubrey delivers monthly sessions to the younger U13s Girls and Boys while the U15s and U17s Girls and Boys have weekly workouts.

Strength and Conditioning is now a vital area of Player Development and CBFC believes Aubrey will become a vital influence on our young players.

Coach Aubrey said: “I’m excited to be working with the next generation of soccer players in the CAPERS Academy.

“Strength and conditioning is a crucial part of developing well-rounded athletes and I’m proud to be contributing to the growth of these young players with the help of my assistant Maddy MacInnis.

“My goal is to enhance their athleticism, build a foundation of strength and foster a mindset that drives excellence both on and off the field.

“Together with Cape Breton FC I feel that we are shaping future leaders and athletes who will represent this community with pride and determination.”

With all six CAPERS Academy Boys and Girls teams at U13s, U15s and U17s now aimed at Tier One soccer in Season 2025 the new-look programs include three field sessions a week, Mental Performance work, Strength and Conditioning and in-depth video analysis for both teams and individual players.

The young CAPERS now have an outstanding 22 Provincial players involved in the Team Nova Scotia programs which is an excellent number for a rural club.

Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain King, also an Assistant Coach with the 2023 National title winning CBU CAPERS Men’s soccer squad, said: “I’m well aware of the difference Aubrey’s work has made with the players in the Varsity soccer programs.

“We are delighted that he has agreed to come on board to help the Academy as he is a proven expert in his field.

“In this emerging Academy we are so fortunate to be based on the CBU campus with a culture of excellence all around us.

“Aubrey is a huge part of that and already we can see the effect the opening sessions have had on our young athletes.”
