CAPERS Academy Division 2 Boys were one of the stories of the weekend in the club's Winsloe Charlottetown Royals Tournament adventure on Prince Edward Island.
Late call-offs meant the team under the guidance of coaches Saleem Al-Khouri, Keyser Titus and Richard Primmer travelled with just 10 players for the 9 v 9 competition and they had just one sub throughout.
Yet after an opening 4-0 defeat from a very strong and physical Northern Nova United side the boys showed true CAPERS heart to battle back and play some great passing soccer beating host club WC Royals Blue team 8-1 with goals from Luka Titus (3), Ryan Primmer (2), Max MacMillan, Evan Howley and Silas Al-Khouri.
That set up a clutch Game Three against WC Royals White and the boys produced again as Titus again hit the target and MVP Howley sparkled when it mattered.
The Boys were outmuscled by NNU in the Final despite Al-Khouri rapping home a cool penalty but that took no shine off a superb performance from them.
Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain King said: "When we started out on this project our dream was to take two boys teams to the PEI tournament but in the end we saw such development in players from clubs across the island that we worked hard to give as many kids as possible the experience of representing Cape Breton with pride.
"No teams summed that up more than these boys. Personally, I was especially thrilled for all the coaches Saleem, Keyser and Richard who have very busy lives but give everything back to their community to ensure players have the chance to grow through soccer."
"Our goal for 2026 is to field two CAPERS teams in the U13AA Nova Scotia Soccer League so to have 35 dedicated boys showing their skills on this trip was a great step towards that."
Elsewhere with the Boys Academy the Premier Team won a lot of fans from watching coaches with their style of play. They were edged by Shediac Dynamo from New Brunsiwck 1-0 in Game One before a tough 2-2 draw with Summerside that saw Olamide Koiki and Tiago Cordoba on target. In Game Three they played some excellent soccer but went down 2-0 to a strong Sherwood Parkdale Rangers side in what was a very compeitive bracket.
The Division One team lost 4-2 to Sherwood Rangers in their opener with goals from Jace Scott and Brady MacKinnon before a 3-0 loss in Game to WC Royals sent them into a Sunday Placement against Sherwood 2 that saw them sparkle in a 6-4 win with Scott (2), MacKinnon (2), Ben Swinkels and Jackson Ratelle on the scoresheet.
Overall, with two golds for the girls, one silver for the boys and a host of great performances throughout it was a brilliant weekend for the CAPERS who will be back on PEI next year!
