WITH heavy rain and gusty winds forecast for much of Saturday, Cape Breton University has taken the decision to move the CAPERFEST activities around the AUS Soccer Home Opener weekend to SUNDAY September 8.
This means the U13 Boys #ForeverOrange Cup games and the celebration of Cape Breton FC’s double Soccer Nova Scotia banner wins will now go ahead 24 hours later than scheduled.
Saturday’s Women’s and Men’s AUS matches against Dalhousie, which kick off at 1pm and 3.15pm respectively, go ahead as scheduled.
Our organisers feel, though, that the young players will have the most memorable experience they can this weekend by taking part on Sunday with events around the two matches against Acadia, which again kick off at 1pm and 3.15pm, when the weather forecast looks much kinder.
Sunday is a huge CAPERFEST day for Soccer Cape Breton with CBFC’s U13AA Girls and U15AA Boys both being honoured with banner presentations after they won their Nova Scotia Soccer League titles.
There will also be a 50/50 draw in aid of Soccer Cape Breton’s programs and lots of soccer fun set up on the Prospects Park grass 9 v 9 field behind the Dome.
SCB’s Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain King said: “We’d like to apologise to all of our Soccer Cape Breton families and CBFC supporters for having to push the celebrations back 24 hours but it was felt this was the wisest decision.
“We want to give all of the young players and their families the best possible day to be around the CAPERS matches and this is the right solution. We look forward to once again seeing the bleachers full of Orange as the teams aim to build on superb starts to the AUS season.
“To reiterate again Saturday’s matches are still ON, we just feel it is prudent to have all of the CAPERFEST events pushed back to the Sunday.”
