CBFC HEART WIN INAUGURAL #FOREVER ORANGE CUP

CAPE BRETON FC HEART were the winners of the inaugural #ForeverOrange Cup which was held as part of a hugely successful CAPERFEST yesterday (Sunday September 8).

The squad consisting of players from the CBFC Prospects project edged their Cape Breton FC Waves team-mates 1-0 in an excellent Final played on the Prospects Park 9 v 9 field on the CBU campus.

Those CAPERS kids made it to the Gold Medal Game after an excellent round robin tournament that also included the U13 Soccer Cape Breton League sides from the Strait SC and Glace Bay SC.

Those two teams competed in a terrific Bronze Medal Game which the Strait won 1-0 to complete a memorable day as they also got to be the walkout players for the CBU CAPERS Men’s team before their 1-1 tie with Acadia.

CBFC Heart had just edged the round robin win to qualify in first place with a 3-0 victory over their club counterparts in the sectional match.

That set up a keenly contested Final that was settled by Tiago Cordoba’s penalty kick after he had been brought down in the box.

Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain King said: “I would like to thank firstly our friends and colleagues from Glace Bay SC and the Strait for making The #ForeverOrange Cup such a great experience for all the kids.

“Also our referees Vernon O’Quinn, the goalkeeping coach from the CBU Varsity Men’s team, and CBU CAPERS strike Ryan Wadden were terrific throughout.

“I am a huge believer in “If you can’t see it, you can’t be it” and it was special to see so many of the players from all of the clubs watching the AUS double-header.

“That’s what CAPERFEST is all about, making memories and fostering a love of The Beautiful Game and everyone at Soccer Cape Breton is committed to seeing those efforts grow across the island.”
