CAPE BRETON FC has been announced as one of the clubs to take part in Year Two of the prestigious Canada Soccer TELUS SheCANCoach initiative.
Last year CBFC was one of just 20 clubs nationwide to be selected to take part in the SheCANCoach pilot project designed to help encourage more women to get actively involved as coaches in the game.
Our 15-strong cohort thoroughly enjoyed the experience of online huddles involving varied content that allowed them to learn from and talk with fellow women coaches across Canada.
The positivity was summed up perfectly by current CBFC Canada Games midfielder Alyse Tierney who, as well as being a SheCAN participant, is a dedicated Future Coach with Soccer Cape Breton and works with our Minis and Skill Centre players every Saturday at the CBU Dome.
"I had an extremely positive experience with the SheCANcoach program," Alyse enthused.
"I learned a lot and the program helped me become a better coach. The program highlighted the importance of female coaches and inspiring girls to play soccer.
"Each month the group would have a Zoom call where you could converse with other participants and learn about their experiences. I learned a lot from the other women in this program. I am very thankful to have been a part of the SheCANcoach program.
"Increasing the number of female coaches and encouraging more girls to play soccer is very important. The program left me feeling very inspired and I was able to apply many things learned into my coaching and my everyday life. I am hopeful to hear that many more women can participate in this program and continue to grow our female coaching numbers here on Cape Breton Island."
