CAPE BRETON FC U13AA Girls goalkeeper Rachel Doyle has been named the Regional Community Player of the Year.
Rachel picked up her award at the glittering Soccer Nova Scotia Night of Excellence banquet in Halifax on Sunday night.
This recognition is not only for her on-field dedication but also for the positivity and growth mindset she brings to every practice as she learns arguably the toughest position in soccer.
Rachel came into the CBFC Academy set-up through Glace Bay Soccer Club and the Soccer Cape Breton Skill Centre program and both environments were crucial in her early development.
This past summer Rachel grew as a player with CBU CAPERS Men’s double National title winning Head Coach Deano Morley as a mentor.
Now, alongside her excellent GK team-mate Rory Stockley, she continues to improve under the watchful eyes of CBU CAPERS Women’s keeper Ellie Lancaster who is the Girls Academy Goalkeeping Coach.
Ellie, an AUS champion and USPORTS National Championships stand-out this season with Ness Timmons’ squad, said: “Rachel is a joy to work with every day.
“She comes to every practice with the biggest smile on her face and she is always one of the hardest workers in the room.
“Rachel gives 100 per cent in whatever she is doing, whether she knows how to do it or not, and as a coach that’s my favourite thing to see.
“She always gets back up when she falls and always wonders how she can get better. Hearing that she received this award has made me so happy and so proud because she truly deserves it. Great job Rach!”
