CBFC HOSTS U17/U18 GIRLS SUNDAY OPEN SCRIMMAGE SESSION

CAPE BRETON FC has added an Open Scrimmage Session game to the process to create U17AAA and U18AA Girls Academy squads for Season 2025.

The game will take place this Sunday December 8 in the CBU Dome from 2pm-4pm and players NOT registered in our current Winter Training Group are welcome to come along and get involved.

CBFC currently have 32 players in the process and the club feel with a few additions there is enough strength in depth to create two powerful squads to keep as many girls in the game as possible.

Regional Director of Soccer Development Iain King said: "Our U17AAA girls squad is now well established as a member of the NSSL picture again but we need to keep building for the future.

"We had a successful U15AA team last season, for instance, who were superbly coached by Ewen Kenny and Elle MacDougall and the training group has been aimed at giving those girls the chance to progress to U17AAA now or stay in the game within the Academy in an 18s set-up.

"The U18 age group is always a tough one with Nova Scotia soccer, it's a big jump up from 15s and the players also have school and work commitments. We sense, though, a real desire for players to keep growing in the game and aim for Tier One either this season or next or to develop in a healthy AA squad.

"Our intention if we can form the right 18s squad will be give them a program that reflects the AAA provision and have them train in a similar structure and this free of charge game is a part of that process."

Any player who is NOT currently registered should send an email to admin@soccercapebreton.com to allow the coaches to know they will be taking part.

Soccer Cape Breton is a non-profit organization.Â As a member of Soccer Nova Scotia, Soccer Cape BretonÂ is the governing body for soccer in the Cape Breton region.

We oversee the clubs within our district and handle things such as scheduling, registration, and refereeing. In the summer, we also run soccer festivals within the clubs for the mini age groups.

In addition, Soccer Cape Breton runs its own programs within the CBHRC complex. The Minis Program runs from fall to spring for children aged 3-10. This program teaches kids the fundamentals of soccer through physical, technical and tactical development, while incorporating fun into every drill!

We also have a Winter Academy for kids aged 11 and up. These players engage in weekly sessions which focus on increasing their technical and tactical abilities.
